Antique 14K Gold Platinum Tiffany & Co. Essex Rock Crystal Foxhound Dog Hunting Brooch. Dates to the late Edwardian era, circa 1910. Crafted in solid 14K yellow gold and hallmarked as such. Bears the partial makers mark of Tiffany & Company on the pin stem.Further bears an additional makers mark for the company that I believe held the patent on the very unique clasp Richardson Manufacturing Company. I have never, in my almost 20 years of dealing exclusively in antique jewelry, seen a clasp like this one. This brooch of course symbolizes the traditional fox hunts of the era. The frame of the brooch is a finely detailed riding-whip, with details that even extend around to the back of the brooch. The handle itself is topped with platinum, which has been carefully acid tested. The center of the handle is mounted with the reverse carved rock crystal, which features a hound in pursuit of its quarry in the grass. Its beautifully detailed and as crisp as the day that it was painted. The crystal is backed with mother of pearl.
The brooch measures 2.01 from end to end, and 0.72 from top to bottom. This piece weighs 5.09 grams. Condition is very good, with no damages or repairs. Very slight scratches to the crystal noted.
